The top-priority goal for Winona State University throughout this unprecedented challenge has been to support our students and their academic pursuits while maintaining the health and safety of the WSU community. Still, we understand the COVID-19 pandemic is causing disruption and uncertainty for our students.
In choosing to place the health and safety of our students first, we have chosen to adapt the way education and services are delivered to our students:
- Winona State faculty are working diligently to ensure students receive a quality education even though classes are being held remotely.
- Student services are being offered remotely to serve our students no matter where they are. Counseling is providing remote counseling alternatives; Health Services is supporting students through telehealth and the Ask-A-Nurse message line; the Wellness Center is offering virtual fitness options as well as access to the Warrior Cupboard; and the eWarrior program supports the technology infrastructure of our campus community.
Our faculty and staff have worked hard to ensure that our educational mission and student support services remain intact even while the delivery model has shifted to online. As such, Spring 2020 tuition and student fees will not be refunded or adjusted. In addition to maintaining the supported student services, these student fees cover operational costs like utilities, maintenance, janitorial services and debt repayment for student service centers like Kryzsko Commons and the Integrated Wellness Complex. We want to make certain these buildings and services will be available and ready to serve our students when we return to campus.
In the next few weeks, WSU will be distributing a total of $2,848,478 to students who are eligible to receive emergency student grants through the recently enacted Federal CARES Act (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act). Close to 90 percent of WSU students are eligible to receive funding through the CARES Act. (Students excluded from receiving these funds include: those who are taking courses online-only, PSEO, receiving the senior rate, DACA, international, undocumented, MinnState employees receiving tuition waivers, or student receiving these funds from another MinnState institution.)
